Put yer John Hancock right there….

Could you sign a little bigger? Douche.
One hurdle of working remotely, especially in business and marketing consulting (which is a lot of what I do), is signing contracts. While faxes still exist, I find it more and more difficult to locate them while on one of my work-a-bouts© (though check out Scott’s great hardware suggestion: the travel scanner). A number of remote signature applications have risen and fallen over the years without any really taking command of the market. Some dominant leader is probably a necessity in order to achieve mainstream acceptance. Well, a hero shall rise. TechCrunch is reporting that electronic signature company EchoSign has crossed a major benchmark of one million users, apparently on the back of cloud computing:
EchoSign’s CEO and co-founder Jason Lemkin says that the electronic signature movement experienced momentum as more businesses adopted SaaS and cloud computing applications. For example, EchoSign has gained significant popularity on Salesforce’s App Exchange.EchoSign is also integrated with web-based productivity suite Zoho.
I haven’t actually used EchoSign, so don’t count this as a review or endorsement, though I promise that I will review it shortly. What I really like about EchoSign is that the company uses my personal favorite business model; the “freemium” model where the basic service is free but users have the option to pay for extra features. I honestly think that the freemium model is the ticket to new web companies breaking into existing markets and claiming significant market share. But I will save that argument for its own article.
