A tablet ‘PC’ – done properly

A Microsoft product worth getting excited about.

A Microsoft product worth getting excited about.

Is this why Microsoft bought OneNote? Is there some overlap? For those of you who don’t know what OneNote is, don’t feel left out. It is really no more than a way to organize thoughts and projects together in a format similar to those 5-tab notebooks you had in middle-school. It does some decent work around sharing, etc, but for the most part it makes you scratch your head and ask how is this much better than Word ? While I don’t know if Courier has anything to do with OneNote, it has a similar theme:

Courier is a real device, and we’ve heard that it’s in the “late prototype” stage of development. It’s not a tablet, it’s a booklet. The dual 7-inch (or so) screens are multitouch, and designed for writing, flicking and drawing with a stylus, in addition to fingers.

There are very few products that Microsoft introduces where my initial thought is, “I need that – immediately”, but this is one of them. I hate all things paper (except maybe for stacks of cash, in which case I still prefer debit), and this seems to be a good step in the right direction of achieving my paperless life. Perhaps this will be the crown jewel of the Microsoft store launch? It would certainly be enough to get me in the door…
